For Elementary Students:
Across A Dark And Wild Sea, by Don Brown. A delightful picture book about the 6th century in Ireland and Scotland, showing in enchanting detail how the earliest books were copied.

An excellent period piece for mid- to upper-elementary students about Carl, the son of Charlemagne, during the years 780-800 AD:

A gorgeously illustrated book sure to be a favorite for the boys in your family. All about knights, castles, and chivalry.
