Learning About Martin Luther King, Jr.

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Junior today, we can commit ourselves to teaching our children about racism and prejudice.  Our “word of the week” is bravery. There are many great books which can be read; a few are listed under the history category of the Civil Rights Movement.  You can also watch together the great “I have a dream” speech.  Oh, the wonders of modern technology.  Excerpts from this speech would make great memory or copy work.  Embedded below is one of several speeches available on Youtube.

I have a dream, deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:  ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today…
